Haringey Gramophone Library

487 world music records bought from Hornsey Library

Sample based music culture means crate digging. I always look for unusual records in second hand shops, car boot sales and libraries.  While second hand sources tend to have the same old records, libraries often contain a an intelligently curated collection which aims to inform and educate library users. Representing of the wide demographic make up of Hornsey library clientele, these records have been chosen from around the world.

The opportunity to spend time riffling through the immense collection of records mothballed in the back room store of Hornsey library was irresistable. I bought as many as I could afford from 10's of thousands (although 80% were classical).

As well as listening pleasurem there is a lifetimes work of sampling potential contained in these records. I am also in the process of recataloging this collection and considering opening of guerilla borrowing service.
